Global warming is one of global issues that we always heard. Many definition have issued by some scientist that give us understanding about global warming. Global warming is the increasing process of the average temperature of atmosphere, sea, and the earth (id.wikipedia.org, accessed at 8th December, 2009). Then, the same source also explained that the earth temperature have been increasing 0.74±0.18 ºC since a hundred years ago.
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) conclude that the increasing of average global temperature is caused by the increasing amount of green house gas as the result of human activities. This conclusion had been said by 30 expert in the world. But, some expert disagree with them. Some expert said that altough the amount of green house gas will have been decreased, but the global temperature will not be changed. They have another reason why global warming cannot be stopped by decreasing the amount of green effect. The reason is the high temperature of sea that can give significant impact to the human surface (id.wikipedia.org).
Green house gas (like almost all expert said) is one of the global warming causes. Green house (H2O, carbondioxide, fluor and methane) gas is actually good and needed in normal amount. Green house gas can keep the earth warm in normal amount. Green house effect keep the warmth that is issued by the sun’s light and explore it to the earth surface. If there isn’t green house gas in earth, the earth temperature is just -18 ºC. But, in large amount, it will cause global warming (id.wikipedia.org). It’s predicted by IPCC that global warming will increase 1,5 –4,5 ºC earth temperature (www.stradasembilantujuh.net, accessed at 3rd December, 2009).
The green house gas is the first reason thought by the expert as the reason why global waming happened. There are a lot of human activities that unrealized can increase the green house gas and make the green house effect. The first activity that can increase the releasing CO2 to the atmosphere is the over use of electricity. The electricity making need the dynamo or generator as the first source. Dynamo or generator need some fuel or other energy sources to give power to produce the electricity. Mind it, the use of electricity in the world is very big and you can imagine how much energy sources that is used to produce all of electricity in the world. From the one of electricity industry in Indonesia, 1 KWh can produce 0,72 kg CO2 (www.globalindoprima.com, accessed at 2008)
From the BUMN research, the industrial electricity is 60-70% used to run the AC. The use of AC can give double impact to the earth. First, AC spend almost 400 Watt per hour, it means that in 24 hours AC can spend 9600 Watt. In one day, the use of one AC can released 9.6 x 0.72 = 6.912 kgs CO2. In other side, we knew that in one office there are more than one AC. If we count the world use of AC, you can imagine how much CO2 that released by the using of AC per day. Second, AC use freon to produce the air. Freon contain of Chlor and Fluor. Chlor is gas that can damage the Ozone so UV can reach your skin withou any filtrating processes. Freon is one of green house gas that can make greean house effect. Global Warming Potential (GWP) of fluor is 510, it means that fluor 510 times more dangerous than CO2. Than, Atmosphere Life Time (ALT) of freon is in 15th index, it means that freon will be exist in atmosphere for 15 years (www.globalindoprima.com).
Many people do the over use of electricity and also AC. There are some others activities like using parfume spray, releasing gas emision and many more. The activities is done without any thinking because it’s a habit and it will be difficult to invite people to save the earth. There are so many people scream loudly to cut the global warming effect, but they also do what the others do. It means that difficult to change the habit and reduce our addiction to the technologies. In some case we want to reduce the global warming effect, but in some others case, we are the technology addicted.
Global warming give significant effect to the earth. The ecological and physical effect are thawing of permafost, lengthening of the growing season in middle and high latitudes, polewardand upward shift of plant and animal ranges, decline of some plant andanimal species, earlier flowering of trees, earlier emergence of insects and earlieregg-laying in birds (NN, 2008:21).
Global warming impact to the season is lengthening of the growing season in middle and high latitudes. This effect gives many impact to the human life, especially in Indonesia. The lengthening of hot season in Indonesia have made a difficulty for the farmer. The weather changing made the plant growth more slow. It made the increasing price of the main food because of the deficit in a certain period (www.alpensteel.com, accessed at 3rd December, 2009). The rainy season intensity in Kabupaten Banggai, Sulawesi Tengah, had been decrease for 20 years, and bothering the farmer, fisher and the other society (who has profession that based on season) activities (rullysyumanda.org, accessed at 3rd December, 2009).
In climate side, global warming increase the global average surface temperature, decrease of snow cover and sea ice extent and the retreat of mountain glaciers, rise in global average sea level and the increase in ocean water temperatures (NN, 2008:21). The global climate changing will give many impact to the world. First, the increasing of global surface temperature will melt the polar ice and increase the sea level. Second, the climate changing will damage the balance of earth then give us many geological disaster. It can be happened because as we all know that climate condition is related to the moving of earth surface (kerak bumi). Earth surface is sensitif to the air, ice and water changing (Kompas.com, 8th Oktober 2009).
In South Asia, flood kill 2000 people. In UK, there is a worst flood that was happened contradictive with the forest burn in Europe that happened because of hot wave. Than, in south side of earth (Argentina and South Africa) there are unordinary ice forming. beside that, in the Middle East area, there are some rare storm that kill 50 people. Based on IPCC, the chaos is happened because of the global warming. The chaos is happened as the natural reaction to the effect of the global warming (www.jawapos.com, accessed at 3rd December, 2009).
Because of that, we must reduce the global warming effect. Don’t think about great idea, but think the simple thing. Cut the use of electricity! If it’s not important to use it, just don’t use it. Especially for the mobile charger and the lamp, if don’t use it, plug the cable out and you help us to save the earth. Simple thing that will save the earth. It will better if you cut the electricity use from 22.00pm to 05.00am. Because that time is the time for rest. Turn every lamp off and plug every unused cble out. But, it’s just a choice. You do that and you help world people to save the Earth, or you don’t do that and the world will end quickly. Be wise in electricity use!
